 T wo cowboys were out on the range herding a group of buffalo. One cowboy turned to the other and said, “These buffalo are the dirtiest, smelliest, ugliest creatures on the face of the earth.” Where upon one buffalo turned to another and said, “Gee, I thought out here we weren’t supposed to hear a discouraging word.”

Watch for someone today who needs an encouraging word. You can be the one to offer it. You can do it in the name of Christ.

Leadership and Service at Good Shepherd
We are here at Good Shepherd to help persons encounter the love of God, hear Christ’s call and serve with the Spirit’s help. Each member and person within the congregation is called by Christ to serve others and so serve God. We all have an opportunity and summons to do something good in the name of Jesus.
The Committee on Lay Leadership has the responsibility for helping persons hear Christ’s invitation to be in service. This group, made up of active church members, considers the gifts and graces of all the people within the congregation. The group makes a list of persons and prays over each of these persons by name. We consider their interests, gifts and ways that they might be of service to God and others through the ministries of the church. Then we invite them to consider helping out with some program or taking on a leadership role. This process is now underway and Pastor Steve is the chair of this group.
We invite everyone to consider how they might be in service in the name of Jesus Christ. There is at least one thing each of us can do, whether it is within the church or something we do at home, at work or in the larger community.
