Welcome to the life of Good Shepherd as it is experienced in our corporate worship
and in our daily activities.
Our purpose is to build a community where persons encounter God's love, hear Christ's call and serve with the Spirit's help.
Then Jesus said to his disciples: "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?
"Consider how the lilies grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith! And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.
Luke 12:22-31

Through Noah’s trust in God and his obedience over time, God brought salvation and a new start to the world. Through Noah, God revealed that God’s desire for a faithful and obedient humanity always exceeds God’s disappointment, anger and judgment when we fall short. When we are faithful and obedient like Noah, the same message gets through to us and others.

If you might be willing to be a host or if you are interested in being a facilitator of one of these small groups please complete the insert in the bulletin. Dates and length of the study will be worked out with hosts and facilitators before the groups are finalized

Summer Sunday school is ten weeks beginning on Sunday, June 15th and ending on Sunday, August 17th. Since there is usually limited attendance during the summer we will be having combined children's classes. We need volunteers to teach either those 3 years of age through first grade or those 2nd through 5th grades. You can pick the Sunday(s) that fits your schedule. We will provide the One Room Live B.I.G. material which is very user friendly. Contact the church office or look for the sign-up at a table in the entrance. This year there will also be two classes available for the youth. Please contact either Ron Kolbe or Carolyn Anderson if you have any questions.

Supplies for Wounded Soldiers
The "Maryland House" is a receiving area/lounge at Malcolm Grow Hospital at Andrews AFB that has been setup to help the wounded that are waiting to be transferred to their home bases. The "Maryland House" is run by Red Cross volunteers that are mostly active duty/retired military personnel and their spouses. When they arrive at Andrews the Maryland House receives the less severely wounded that do not go to Walter Reed. When they arrive they are without their personal belongs. The volunteers donate most of supplies they need with help from outside donations.
Your donations of toiletry and travel items have been very generous and our supply has now exceeded our storage allocation. If you would still like to help, there is a great need for the following. (listed in the order of importance):
Phone Cards, Size Medium T-Shirts, Soda, Gatorade, Water, Size Large T-shirts, Flip Flops, Chocolate Candy and individually wrapped snacks or cookies.
We will set-up a box in the lobby for you to drop off your denotations. If you have any questions you can contact Nancy Bennett 301-643-1160 or Debbie Hahn 301-645-8268.

Marriage Preparation Seminar:
Good Shepherd United Methodist Church offers to its congregation
and the community a Marriage Preparation Seminar. This weekend
program, presented by married couples of Good Shepherd, seeks to
provide engaged couples with a Christian view of the excitement, the
fun, and the sacredness of marriage. The seminar teaches couples
vital communication skills necessary for a fulfilling relationship.
Marriage related topics presented include: family or origin and how
it influences our relationships, communications, valuing your spouse,
welcoming a child, handling finances, differences between men
and women, and sexuality.
The seminar is led by various couples from within the church that share from their own experiences. The Pastor and his wife are one of the presenting couples. Positive feedback and continual updating of materials have made this program a tremendous success.
This seminar is offered twice a year ~ once in March and again in September. For registration or information, contact Rev. Steve Larsen at pastor@gsumc.com or call the church office at 301-843-6797.
